Corduroy
Corduroy stars chef Tom Power, who has worked at Michel Richard Citronelle in the past but has run his own successful restaurant as an adjunct to a business hotel. His current venue is tastefully arranged so that the two-part dining room gives guests a choice of front or back of the house seating; private parties head upstairs. Foodies will opt to be back by the kitchen, where all the action takes place. His compact menu sets forth beautifully staged meals composed of the freshest and best ingredients prepared and served simply. Power believes in seasonal cooking, so you may not always find your favorites on the menu. But if available, check out the seared sea scallops or the roasted Muscovy duck. And should your fortunes be good, you'll find the chocolate tart with caramelized banana for dessert. Power has assembled an impressive wine list, and if you are bewildered by the choices, ask for some wine-pairing help. Note that the restaurant may not have a sign out front so keep a close eye on street numbers. - Gayot- 1122 Ninth Street, NW
